Proper Contact Point SwingAway - Get Good Gazette, Volume 2 Issue 6
The diagram below details proper contact point of the bat and the pitched ball for different locations. Many people do not understand this concept and therefore struggle when hitting. In the diagram, the red bats represent the right-handed hitter, blue bats the left-handed hitter. Position A represents the inside pitch for the right handed batter. Position D represents the inside pitch for the left handed batter. Notice that contact is made about 12" out in front of home plate. If the ball gets closer to home plate you get "jammed." Position F represents the outside pitch for the right handed batter. Position C represents the outside pitch for the left handed batter. Contact should be made near the front corner of home plate. It is important to let the ball travel deeper toward the catcher before contact. Position B represents a pitch down the middle for both right and left-handed batters. Contact should be made about 6" in front of home plate. If you let the ball travel too deep, then a weakly stuck ball will result.
