Proper Swing
SwingAway - Get Good Gazette, Volume 3 Issue 3

When a proper swing has been executed, the point of contact determines where the ball goes.

  1. The inside pitch is hit farthest out front; the ball is "pulled."

  2. The outside pitch travels deeper (farther toward the catcher), yet is still contacted in front of the body; the ball is hit to the opposite field.

  3. The pitch down the middle is travels more than the inside pitch but not as far as the outside pitch. The ball is hit toward center field.

An excellent illustration of contact position is available at www.swingaway.com. Click here to view the "X-factor." This diagram displays proper pitch contact location!
