When In Doubt Call 911 For Help If an injury appears to be severe or you are not sure what to do, call for emergency help immediately. A trained expert will know how to handle the situation without adding aggravation to the injury. Always call on an expert whenever there is: loss of consciousness due to head injuries, shock, severe bleeding, compound bone fractures, and painful ligament or muscle tears. Before help arrives, loosen the victim's clothing around the neck and waist, cover with a warm blanket and don't move them. Keep everyone calm. If the site is not visible from the street, have another player stand watch to help direct the emergency response team. Be prepared even before an emergency strikes. Know where the nearest phone is and the exact location of the ball field in order to save valuable time and minimize panic. And every athlete should learn basic first aid.
